This setting of Cowper's beloved text opens with the piano accompanying the first stanza solo, and the instruments join on the second and third stanzas (with a marked repeat). Instruments and piano collectively help build a climactic 3-bar key change, and voices sing a strong and powerful final stanza: "When this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave..." All voices and instruments continue building into a glorious ending into a final declaration of, "I'll sing Thy power to save."
